Labrador Park (part one)

Nope zee, it's not a dog-only-park. Just because it's called Labrador doesn't mean that it's just for dogs.
actually, i've no idea where the name came from. Sure, there were a few dogs here and there (with their owner, of course!), but mummy hasn't seen any labradors...

Well baby, this labrador park is actually a beach. It's popular for exercising (walking, jogging) among Singaporeans. At least it was pretty crowded for S'pore standard when we went there, eh zee? (as usual, zee didn't really know since she was sleeping... sigh....)

**Historical Story**
Close to the beach is a densely tree-covered hill. There used to be a bunker here. The beach used to be the main entrance point of S'pore before they use the now more crowded Raffles bay. So they did everything they can in their power to protect it.

Some outer walls of the bunker is actually still intact for monumental purpose. They even still have the 12-pounder machine gun they used to fire at the approaching enemy vessel.
Aside from its grandness, to tell you the truth, the place gives mummy the creeps.
Imagining ancient-times sentries marching around with their guns and worn-out uniforms, famished and tired, living in hardships and low sanitary condition, bad air. Not to mention always have to be in guard 24-7 since enemy can approach at any time.
Brr...surely that imagination can give ANYONE a creeps....
Except for zee, of course. She seemed to be enjoying everything she saw and heard and smelled.

We're so lucky that all those war times are all over, aren't we zee? Let's pray it will keep that way forever. Wars are bad zee. It brought nothing but suffering and sadness. Just take a look at Palestines and Iraq. There wasn't a day passing by without a BAD NEWS about the war, and not a single good news that occur thanks to the war. Mummy just can't understand why some people or country just seems to be so blood-thirsty and just love making wars.
Love your surrounding, baby. People around you are so much worthy then we think they are.

**The Beach**
I'M IN LOVE!!!
Ah, the sea.... It's so beautiful isn't it zee? Mummy's in love with the sea (don't tell abi).
That's one of the reasons mummy took oceanography as my major. Yes, it sounded as corky and dorky as it did, but it's true!
Okay, you should try it then honey. Sit at a beach. Any beach. Take a deep breath while keeping your eyes to the ocean. Listen to the sound of those waves breaking up the shore. Watch the water glistening under the sun rays. Once again, take a deep breath, see, listen... You'll fall in love with it in no time!

How can mummy describes mummy's feeling for the ocean?
It's so grand, magnificent, and calm, but yet so powerful and mysterious and unpredictable. Hmmm, you know how men in uniforms always look attractive to women no matter what? Well, I think it's just like that with the sea. It's simply amazing!

The beach itself is really nice. Well kept with benches and shelters for resting after exercising. But even this is S'pore, some stupid people still threw garbages at the beach.
The sea is NOT a waste bin! Just because it's a self cleaning system doesn't mean you can threw away anything you want into it!!! Puh-leeeze... Maybe that's why we hardly found a clean public beach in Indonesia. Everyone has such a great 'ownership' over the ocean, they treated it as they please! Even if it means throwing some 'small' stuff like food wraps or dumping nuclear waste, perhaps?!
Please keep the ocean clean... So you and your baby can come back visit it again some times in the future ;)

(to be continue....)
Next episodes of Labrador Park: Tasty Malay cuisine....
